Take your horizontal prejudice and put it somewhere.
A dragon in and of the clouds. Because of what?
Because there is no such thing as dragons. As such, seeing them requires you to ignore reality. Ignore "the rules," so why must we pay attention to them at the same time?
This image is not about the beach or the ocean or the sunset or the horizon.
It's about the color and the balance and the imbalance.
I am just a guy. . . I may or may not have an eye for pictures. It's not really for me to decide, That's for you to do. . . I will take pictures of things others may see as mundane. Then I dig down into those images to see what is where. The tech does a lot of the work for me, I can't pretend. But the tech doesn't see what I see. . . Buddy of mine (this officially lets him off the hook for this) always tells the story of how when we would walk together as kids he would always be looking up and out and around, meanwhile, I would walk with my neck bent looking down at the ground. The clouds are indeed beautiful. But the world where you are has beauty as well. But you have to find it. . . I don't always live in...

Because, what is the point of a picture of a sunset? There's another one right outside, every day. But a sunset is beautiful... Why? because it plays with colors and light and shadow and contrast. So why does it HAVE to be presented as it "is"? Why must it forever be a sunset? Why can't it live out it's momentary eternity as an image all unto itself? Just the beauty of the colors and the shapes. And why are those colors (the ones we perceive) the only acceptable colors? It's not a picture of a sunset. It's an assortment of colors that make your heart skip a beat. PLAU UPD

p.s....I meant: held always at an angle, a fearsome angle. sorry.....upset.

Do you know, Uther, I look at this, and totally get the diagonals as fearsome...Kudos to you. Powerful image. And, you set me off, not looking for diagonals in my work, but, you gave me pause to think of the knife, held always at an horizontal when used to create fear, and/or death itself......and from there I went to my own work, looking to explain one in particular as relates to fear, and b/c of your diagonal, I was reminded that my work's description includes the stabbing of Julius Ceasar........i know, I know......a long tangent from this to that, but.....your diagonal hit my nail on its head.........'the most unkindest cut of all' is the title......my own 'fears' expressed in abstraction. Thank you, Uther........and, congrats on the feature in All Things In Moderation.....cool !..............VIVA. (I'm posting this to Drew's thread too.........as, if you don't mind, affirmation of you, affirmation of me...being on topic about fear).

Oh and thank me very much for the feature in that very enjoyable group, All Things In Moderation. You should consider joining that group. PLAU UPD

Hey, It's me, Uther Pendraggin . I wanted to comment here because I REALLY like this one. I LOVE that it is a sunset type picture, but it breaks the rules. I love that the horizon is not horizontal. And I love the striation of the colors. I DIG those birds in the clouds. Dragon birds. Draggin Birds. Hmm... Thanks for stopping.
